He is leaning back in the chair with one leg outstretched on the rug. A floor lamp is beside him and a bookshelf is behind him. There are plates, small sculptures, and a metal teapot on the mantle over the brick fireplace behind him. He is holding a cigarette in his left hand. He is smiling toward the left of the frame. Pyle is wearing a button down shirt and blue jeans. On the top of the photograph, Ernie has written, "To John - Come join me in Albuquerque soon. Ernie Pyle."
