On viewBorn in Vienna, Lilly Fenichel studied art and lived in California before moving to New Mexico in 1981. Throughout her life, she continually innovated, materially and stylistically. Despite her roots in abstract expressionism, her work feels utterly contemporary. Created by pouring oil-based glazes onto bright white synthetic paper, the glowing colors in this work are allowed to run and fuse together in places, yet assert their formal integrity as organic shapes of pure pigment arranged with an eye toward total harmony.
Nacida en Viena, Lilly Fenichel estudió arte y residió en California antes de mudarse a Nuevo México en 1981. A lo largo de su vida, continuó innovando desde el punto de vista estilístico y de materiales. Aunque sus raíces provienen del expresionismo abstracto, su obra tiene un aire absolutamente contemporáneo. En esta obra, creada mediante el vertido de esmaltes a base de aceite sobre papel sintético blanco brillante, los colores resplandecientes corren por el lienzo y se funden unos con otros en áreas concretas, pero aun así expresan su integridad formal como formas orgánicas de pigmento puro dispuestas con el propósito de crear una total armonía.
