DescriptionThis aviation-themed, smoking stand, constructed of recycled metal parts, originates from the Albuquerque Airport, dating back to the early twentieth century, features a labelled world map on top. A propeller-shaped base on the bottom portion is visible, while eagle wings sit on either side of a sphere in the center of the stand. The stand itself features a twisted design that supports the rounded world map top surface, which includes a protruding model of an early aircraft. Additionally, the top portion also encompasses two slots for matches and a holder for the airplane ashtray. Utilized as a designated place for smoking in both public and domestic settings, the smoke stand began to gain popularity during the early twentieth century, specifically during the Great Depression (1929-1939), due to its convenience and practicality during an era characterized by severe economic downturn. On View
