BiographyEmma Lewis Mitchell is the daughter of noted potter Lucy Lewis and the sister of Ann Lewis Hanse, Mary Lewis Garcia, Dolores Lewis Garcia and Carmel Lewis Haskaya. She learned pottery making from her mother and began making pottery for the market around 1952. She specialized in Mimbres and Ancestral Pueblo revival work, such as black-on white and polychrome ollas, jars, bowls, seed pots, plates and owls. Her work is found in collections across the United States including the Peabody Museum, the Heard Museum and the San Diego Museum of Man.
