BiographyRussell Hamilton studied engineering for two years at the Rolla School of Mines in Rolla, MO before transferring to Missouri State University to major in art. He came to Albuquerque from the Springfield, Mo., area in 1976, as one of two students accepted into Tamarind's mater printer program. At this point he began to turn away from abstraction and toward representational art. Hamilton launched his career as a master printmaker at the Tamarind Institute. He was the co-found of Exhibit 208 Gallery in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Hamilton died in 2014 at the age of 64 following a long battle with kidney disease.
