Louie Ewing

Louie Ewing moved to Santa Fe in 1935 and worked on the New Mexico Federal Art Project (FAP) of the WPA as one of the pioneer artists making silkscreen prints under Russell Vernon Hunter. In the late 1930s, Hunter received materials from the FAP on the process of silk screening (also called serigraphy), and Ewing was selected to master the technique and teach it to others. Ewing set up a silk screening shop and helped make serigraphy a major artistic medium in the Southwest. He was one of the first artists in the country to employ the technique as an art form.
