BiographyBorn José Ray Paige, Don Alvarado was an actor, assistant director and film production manager from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Alvarado was a farmer and shepherd on his father's sheep and cattle ranch until he ran away in 1922, at the age of 18. He went to Los Angeles in hopes of acting in the silent film industry. He was an extra while working in a sweets factory before breaking into Hollywood as an independent actor. Following his first break as an extra in Mademoiselle Midnight (1924), his film roles rapidly increased in importance in many late silent films and early talkies. His film credits include: Loves of Carmen (1927), Rio Rita (1929), La Cucaracha (1932), Love Underfire (1937), and The Big Steal (1949).
