BiographyTeri Greeves (Kiowa/Comanche) was born on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming in 1970. Her mother, Jeri Ah-be-hill, owned a trading post on the reservation, while Greeves was growing up. Her grandmother and mother were beadworkers, and her grandmother, Suzy Big Eagle, showed and won awards at the Gallup Ceremonials for several years. Her grandmother also made the outfits both of her daughters wore and Kiowa and Cheyenne royalty. Greeves took up beadwork at the age of eight. Although she is primarily self-taught, she also received instruction from Zeedora Enos (Shoshone) and Calvin Magpie (Cheyenne). Greeves attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies in 1995. She has also studied at St. John's College in 1988 and Cabrillo College in 1993. After graduating from the University of California, Santa Cruz, Greeves began her career as a beadwork artist, winning Best of Show at Santa Fe Indian Market in 1999. Greeves's work is included in the collections of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, the British Museum, the Heard Museum, the Brooklyn Art Museum, the Museum of Arts and Design, and the State of New Mexico.
