Florence E. Potter

born ca. 1872 Michigan
BiographyFlorence and her father arrived in Albuquerque in 1901 and Florence opened Potter Studio shortly after. Florence chose to go by “F.E. Potter”, perhaps hoping that the initials would gain her entrance into circles where professional women were not yet welcome. Whatever the reason for signing her portraits the way she did, her work was admired nationally. Potter Studio was featured in the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis. Around 1903, a woman named Sadie Potter joined Florence in the running of the studio. The studio was briefly called Potter Sisters Studio, but it was short-lived. By 1910, Florence and her mother had moved to California.
