    The body of Pancho Villa (right) strapped to a stretcher, alongside the body of one of Villa's bodyguards. A crowd of men, women, and children gather in the background. Two of Villa's bodyguards were killed in the ambush at Parral: Claro Hertado and Rafael Madreno. A third of Villa's bodyguards, Ramon Contreras, was the only survivor of the assassination ambush in Parral, Mexico. Villa was assassinated on July 20, 1923.
