    DescriptionSmall straw applique box or caja. Rectangular with lid and straw applique - pine with dovetail construction. Front, sides, and top painted black with straw applique. Bottom and back = plain. Lid held to back panel with string loops (probably originally leather). Leather thong (?) front closure. Design of top: triangular borders with 1 diamond each corner. Arrows and diamond motif at center of each side pointing toward middle of lid. Central design = triangle surmounted by "flower" motif with 2 "leaf" motifs each side of triangle. Sides have triangle border with triple jointed diamond shapes in center. Front has triangle shapes around border with every other triangle surmounted by "flower" motif. Upper center design around leather thong = outlined square (like a lock plate) with triangle each side and flower motif each lower corner.

    Appears to be painted black as well.
