DescriptionPastel portrait of the last Mexican governor of Nuevo Mexico, Manuel Armijo, pastel on paper, in its original frame.

This portrait is the only image of the last Mexican Period governor of New Mexico where he is portrayed in full figure. According to information researched by Ward Alan Minge and Marc Simmons, the portrait is one of two. One was made by the Mexican government and its location isn't known; the duplicate was made for Armijo and passed down through the family. This one is the family portrait.

Alfred S. Waugh (of Irish descent) left Independence MO in June 1846 and arrived during the fiesta of St. John the Baptist on June 24. Armijo died in Lemitar in 1853.
