DescriptionThe wall hanging, crafted by a traditional weaver from Chimayó, was presented to Clyde Tingley during his service as Governor of New Mexico from 1935-1939. The donor was a cousin of the governor's wife, Mrs. Carrie Tingley. Primarily red, the Chimayo weaving reads "New Mexico, The Sunshine State -- Governor, 1935-1938" in black lettering with Zia sun symbols on each corner of the center frame. In the center is a burro, a trough, and a church design. There are two stripped patterns that lay at the top and at the bottom of the center frame. Clyde Tingley served as Albuquerque City Alderman, commission chairman (now called Mayor), and New Mexico's governor for two terms.
