DescriptionThis silver saw has two heads of different shapes connected to a black handle by a thin metal rod. One side of the saw head is curved like an axe, while the other side has a flat sharpened end.Hey's saws were used in trephinations, surgical procedures that involved cutting into the cranium. Hey's saws were used to cut through the bone as well as scraping debris (and potentially bullets) from the dura mater, a layer of membrane between the skull and the brain.
