Label Text:Jane Abrams’s diptych Shady Lakes/For Jay is a highly personal painting dedicated to a friend and student of the artist who died of AIDS in the 1980s. Abrams’s painting captures the beauty and intensity of a place that was special to her friend. Her energetic brushwork and use of rich color are characteristic of many of her reflections on the natural world. Abrams taught painting and drawing at the University of New Mexico from 1971 until 1993.
