Label Text:Jiménez used art to humanize and uplift individuals who have been marginalized and dismissed by society. Border Crossing depicts a man carrying his wife and young child across the Rio Grande, a story that had personal resonance for Jiménez. His own father, Luís Jiménez Sr., crossed the Rio Grande with his parents in 1924 when he was nine years old. In this lithograph that served as a study for the fiberglass sculpture of the same name, Jiménez honors the individuals who risk their lives and face exploitation, deportation, and discrimination in search of a better life for their family.
