DescriptionBonne was the official cartographer of the French Navy during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. This map, believed to be from an atlas of the world, appears to have been based on 1724 copy of Fr. Eusebio Kino's 1710 manuscript map, although numerous changes of spelling and omissions were made. Almost appropriately, the Villa de Alburquerque is not drawn on the map. Its unintentional absence would have supported Fr. Anatasio Dominguez' 1776 statement that "the villa itself consists of twenty-four houses near the church. (It is principally) a settlement of ranchos on the meadow of the said river for the distance of a league from the church to the last one upstream."
