DescriptionThis map depicts North America in 1848, the year the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the war. Texas is claiming land east of the upper Rio Grande, placing Albuquerque squarely in what is now the Lone Star State! Texas gave up its claim to New Mexico in the Compromise of 1850.

In 1845, Texas was admitted to the Union as a new state. This prompted an invasion of Texas by Mexico, causing the U.S.-Mexican War.

This map depicts North America in 1848, the year the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the war. Texas is claiming land east of the upper Rio Grande, placing Albuquerque squarely in what is now the Lone Star State! Texas gave up its claim to New Mexico in the Compromise of 1850.
