Label Text:Howard Cook’s Dog (and Self-Portrait) is a more intimate foray into naturalism. The bird’s-eye view makes for an odd spatial connection between the large shoes and the dog’s smaller-scale legs and paws. Ironically, Cook depicts the illusion of a wood floor, while dispensing with the actual textures of the wood matrix. The small, intimate format intensifies the impact of the scene.
