Label Text:In Aspens and the Roaring Hondo, New Mexico John Marin combines natural and abstract depictions of water cascading off of and through the mountainous terrain. Geometric shapes and billowing lines add to the dynamic compositions of the watercolor. Marin was known for his watercolors of the Maine coast and eastern cities. In 1929 and again in 1930 he visited Taos. In just two summers, he produced almost one hundred watercolors of Northern New Mexico’s expansive landscapes, dramatic skies, and Native peoples.
