Santa Fe is yet another example of how the unique light and landscape of the Southwest inspired artists who eventually made New Mexico their home. B.J.O. Nordfeldt’s dynamic rendering of the natural and built environment of his adopted hometown is infused with the influence of French painter Paul Cézanne, interpreted in a fresh and lively way. Despite a bucolic beauty that could pass for the South of France or Tuscany, the surprising inclusion of a factory’s belching smokestack reveals a modern setting.
