Label Text:For its run of 12 issues between 1966 and 1968, The Oracle was the voice of San Francisco’s alternative scene. Contributors included Beat and next generation writers, artists, culture leaders, and activists. Each issue saw circulation double or triple, and starting with this sixth issue devoted to the “Age of Aquarius”, reprints were often called for. Griffin’s cover depicts a dark-eyed, Biblically-garbed messenger, with both fists pouring forth the waters of an astrological New Age. In retrospect, however, this winged apparition unintentionally bears a spooky resemblance to Charles Manson, while the water looks more like smoke cast from a burnt offering.
