Label Text:The High Mass was one of numbers of themed theatrical events that celebrated the emerging counterculture. Bob Fried created two amazing large posters for it, this being one. A then common sacramental attitude toward mind-altering substances was made especially clear. Religious themes are found throughout the art and literature of the period – Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, even Satanic – and many people emerged from psychedelic experiences expressing the enthusiasm of the recently converted.
